Here is a cottontail for Sonja. It’s the same kind as the ones in her backyard.

  2. Thanks, Ma! And happy Mother’s Day! Rabbits, hares, and pikas are not rodents, actually—they’re lagomorphs, a different order. (Lagomorph, boringly, means “hare-shape.”) But I just read in Walker’s Mammals of the World that the lagomorphs used to be considered rodents, so lots of scientists have agreed with you, and you may still be right.

    I’m glad you didn’t hate rodents that much when we had 7 tiny pink-eraser baby hamsters.
