About my new name

The adoption finalization courtroom

You may, or probably won’t, notice that my name has changed from J.R. Atkins to J.R. Kinyak here on the site. That’s because after nearly 6 years of marriage, my husband Ted Slampyak and I adopted two kids, and all four of us changed our last names to Kinyak, a combination of AtKINs and SlampYAK. Being a Kinyak is very nice.

  1. Many congratulations and best wishes from the Killebrew/Karons to all the Kinyaks!

    • Thank you, Kate! We love being Kinyaks! Except I do have my qualms (kwalms) about starting with a K instead of an A—there are advantages to the A.

  2. Congrats, that’s awesome! I’m glad you didn’t become Atkins-Slampyak. That’s a bit of a mouthful.

  3. Thanks, Julia! I agree that Atkins-Slampyak would be pretty awful! And yet people keep suggesting that instead of Kinyak.

  4. *ahem*—welcome to the land of K!!

    It’s the greatest!

    Kate Killebrew (Karon)
