Nocturnal Week: Fennec Fox (Vulpes zerda)
Number 0045
The fennec fox is one of my favorite mammals; I wish I had done him justice. Someday when I have time for an extra mammal, I’m going to redraw this guy.
If you’re not familiar with fennecs, check out some photographs (these are of someone’s pet fennec fox, and are quite nice). They are the smallest canid, topping out at around 3 pounds. They live in the desert of Africa, where their huge ears help dissipate their body heat. And, of course, they’re nocturnal!
I really enjoy your blog
I think your fennec fox came out quite nice. I think I’m going to enjoy the nocturnal animal week :) Maybe you’ll do a bat. My favorite bat is the Spotted Bat
Or you could do a really bizarre animal I was just reading about, the Yapok.
Errr… sorry, I get overly enthusiastic talking about animals
Thanks, Herman! (I know a Herman…) I’m glad you’re enjoying the blog, and thanks for saying that about the fennec fox. I don’t mind it as much as I did yesterday…but I can’t believe I actually got the ears TOO SMALL. I even enlarged them from my original sketch.
Thanks for introducing me to the yapok, also known as the water opossum! Stay tuned…
